Unit Role

The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and General Counsel (OGC) provides legal representation and counsel to all academic and central administration units of the University regarding compliance with a broad array of Federal, State and local regulations and sponsoring agency policies and procedures concerning research and related activities.

The Office of General Counsel reports to the Chancellor.

 

Principles, Standards, and Guidance 

  • Works with compliance entities to develop institutional policies and guidance that are in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations and sponsoring agency policies and procedures.

Institutional Oversight

  • Serves as a resource and counsel for all research units and institutional entities on matters of compliance.
  • Serves as counsel to institutional compliance committees, including the Disclosure Review Committees, the Committees on Research Integrity, Human Research Protection Office Committees (Washington University’s Institutional Review Board), the Animal Studies Committee, the Institutional Biological and Chemical Safety Committee, and the Radiation Safety Committee.
  • Reviews license agreements and contracts for compliance.

Noncompliance

  • Works with the Compliance Office and other institutional compliance entities and committees as appropriate to investigate and provide guidance regarding reports of non-compliance.
